Smithy Bridge

Smithy Bridge covers the land between Hollingworth Lake and the railway line. There are a number of old stone cottages in the heart of the village which were originally weavers’ cottages. The upper floors of these three storey buildings contained handlooms, an industry that predates the cotton mills by up to 200 years.
