Friends of Rochdale 9

Our first volunteer day will take place on Sunday 8 May at 12 o’clock and we’ll be starting our activities at Lock 89 on the Rochdale Canal in central Manchester (next to Rain Bar and Jurys Inn). We will be doing some wild seed planting as well as gardening at our ‘floating garden’ offside the towpath (thanks to the Canal and River Trust for letting us use the workboat!) Our aim is to transform the Rochdale Canal into a greener and more attractive destination with lush planters, floating gardens and safe and clean towpaths. The volunteer day will consist of two sessions. We will be gardening 12–2pm and formalising the Friends of the Rochdale 9 group to discuss our future plans 2pm–3.30pm at Dukes 92 (where lunch will be provided as well.) We will be appointing the chair and the secretary to the group and discussing your views on the canal as well as the upcoming Canal Festival in September. You can join both sessions or just one. Everyone is very welcome!
